Mr. Vied Verified

Steve Vied is former sports reporter for Messenger-Inquirer and covers automotive industry. He also contributes to Lexington Herald Leader. Vied, a Marshall County native, is a 27-year newsroom veteran and was recently named editorial page editor of the Messenger-Inquirer. He joined the Messenger-Inquirer staff in December 1977 as a sports reporter. In 1991, he moved to news, covering education until 1996 when he opened the newspaper's Muhlenberg County bureau. He returned to the Owensboro office a year later to cover health issues and then moved to the county government beat until 2004, when he began covering city government. Vied covered the Kentucky General Assembly in 2004. He has also covered utilities and transportation issues for several years. For the past three years, he has written the weekly 'Road Trips' feature on interesting area residents in the Friday Messenger-Inquirer. After graduating from Murray State University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science, Vied became news editor of the weekly Todd County Standard in Elkton. He held that position until moving to Owensboro. Vied is married to the former Carla Roemer, director of children's ministries at Bellevue Baptist Church.
