He has nearly 15 years’ experience in Journalism and Communications
field having been involved with various mainstream and online publications,
corporate sector, sports body and inter-government service.
He started career as a Sports Journalist with theSunDaily,
an English newspaper in 1997 before moving to Asian Football Confederation and
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He made the comeback into
journalism with The Malay Mail in 2008. Later, he became News Journalist and
automotive writer in the New Straits Times, Berita Harian and theSunDaily.
At present, Shahrim is a guest columnist and freelance
journalist for various digital news outlets which include
freemalaysiatoday.com, an award-winning English news website mole.my,
Malaysia’s number one satellite news channel in national language
astroawani.com as well as local automotive portal.
Shahrim was awarded with theSunDaily Editorial Excellence
Award for two consecutive years in 2015 and 2016. In November 2016, he received
a special Award from Asean NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme).
He has also participated in regional conference on public
safety organised by Special Envoy for Road Safety of United Nations in April
2017. In August 2018, Shahrim was appointed by the Minister of Transport
Malaysia as part of the Recommendations Review Panel (RRP) to monitor the
implementation of the previous panel 51 points following the highest casualties
ever recorded in a single road crash at Genting Highlands seven years ago.
Shahrim is part of the International Centre for Journalist
and World Health Organisation (ICFJ-WHO) Road Safety 2020 Fellowship held in
Stockholm, Sweden and WHO Safety 2018 Fellowship in Bangkok, Thailand.
He sits on the Board of Directors of Malaysian Institute of
Road Safety Research (MIROS), the only Journalist appointed to the Board.
