Mr. Middleton Verified

Neil Middleton's first job in broadcasting was in 1978 when he showed up -- an hour late -- to enter a "DJ for a Day" contest, but walked out with a part-time job as a disc jockey at WFSR. He continued to work part-time while attending the University of Kentucky, then in 1982, Middleton accepted a full-time position at WFSR as a disc jockey and news reporter, using the name ?John Harrison? -- a combination of John Lennon and George Harrison. In addition, he served as assistant news director, program director, music director, sports play-by-play and DJ. In 1986, he switched briefly to WHLN, then, seven months later, he switched again to WYMT. He took over as bureau chief in 1987 and remained until 1997, when he became assistant news director and producer of the 6:00 news. He's received receive numerous awards for investigative reporting and was named Best Reporter by the Associated Press. His other employment includes a two-year stint at WVLT, WYMT's sister station in Knoxville. He co-hosted the 2003 Children's Miracle Network Celebration, and hosted the 2005 Eastern Kentucky Leadership Foundation Awards Showcase.
