University Libraries has developed a service that will allow library users to request physical books from the main campus library collections and pick them up through a low-contact system.
Borrowers must first request the book through an online form, then can them up from Zimmerman Library during a specific time offered once a week. Requests of up to 10?print items per week are allowed. B oth UNM affiliated and those with community borrowers? card can use this service.
Items requested by Monday at 9 a.m. will be checked out to the requestor's account and available for pickup on Friday. Pickup on Friday will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Zimmerman Library's Press Release North entrance. A valid ID will be required for pick up. If there is a?problem?with the request, requestors will be contacted by a staff person via email. Items will be held for two weeks for pickup before being returned to the shelves.
Library staff have devised a pickup strategy that will allow for physical distancing and minimize contact between library employees and anyone picking up materials. Zimmerman Library remains closed as required by UNM guidelines so book pickups will happen only at the entrance doors on the north side.
Since the start of limited operations, library users have hoped for access to physical books in addition to the extensive access to ebooks and other online materials. Most circulating print items from any Main Campus library facility ? Centennial Science & Engineering Library Press Release Fine Arts & Design Library, Parish Memorial Library, and Zimmerman Library ? can be requested through this service, although if the item is available as an ebook it is not eligible for carry out . Items from special collections that do not normally circulate, including DVDs and other media, are not a part of this service.
