Sylvia Weatherspoon began her career at WBRZ-TV in December 1993. She currently is the co-anchor of WBRZ News 2 Louisiana at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. [CR-LF][CR-LF]She joined the WBRZ-TV team after working as the news director for WJBO-AM and WFMF-FM radio in Baton Rouge. She initially pursued a career in radio news reporting, but the technical side of TV news caught her attention. [CR-LF][CR-LF]In 2007, she received the Excellence In Medical Journalism Award in Television Broadcasting for her health segments ?Reduce Your Risk." The Louisiana Associated Press awarded her second-place Best Spot News on her story of a house fire, ?In Just Minutes,? and third place for ?Miracle on the Mississippi,? a report covering an accident on the Mississippi River Bridge. She is the recipient of the 2007 Women in Media Award of Excellence in Television and the 2007 Laurie Smith Anderson Award for Excellence in Health Care Reporting from the Arthritis Association of Louisiana. And in 2008, she received the Louisiana Role Model Award from the Baton Rouge Chapter of The Links, Inc. as well as the 2008 NAACP Community Service Award.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Attending Louisiana State University, she studied broadcast journalism. She is a member of the Junior League of Baton Rouge and Sunrise Rotary Club. She serves as an Executive Board Member of the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic and The Center of Hope. She volunteers for Louisiana Voices, The Advisory Board of the Junior League of Baton Rouge, and she is an Executive Board member for the Paula Manship YMCA. She is also on the Executive Board for the Hilltop Arboretum and the Advisory council of Women Hospital.[CR-LF][CR-LF]In her spare time, she enjoys vacationing with her husband and two children. She also takes time for gardening and Bible Study.
