Ms. SerVaas Verified

Cory Servaas is the editorial director of the Children's Better Health Institute, the publisher of children's health magazines, including U.S. Kids, Child Life, Children's Digest, Jack and Jill, Children's Playmate, Humpty Dumpty and Turtle Magazine. She founded the Benjamin Franklin Literary and Medical Society in 1976 and serves as its president and CEO. [CR-LF][CR-LF]From 1975 to 1982, Dr. Servaas served as chairwoman, president and CEO of The Curtis Publishing Company, Inc. She was also the chairwoman of Country Gentleman Publishing Co., Inc. She has received many honors and awards, including the Indiana Woman of Achievement Award from the National Federation of Press Women, Kappa Tau Alpha (National Journalism Scholarship Society) Award for Outstanding Service and was elected to the University of Iowa School of Journalism Hall of Fame. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Dr. Servaas writes the Medical Mailbox column in the Saturday Evening Post, as well as Medical Update, a monthly newsletter. She has also published several books, including cookbooks and books on health issues. She was a former member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and on the first Presidential Commission on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Epidemic in 1987. Dr. Servaas is a member of many organizations, including Second Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis, the Children's Museum Guild, the American Medical Association, the Indiana State Medical Association, Women in Communication, Inc., Women's Press Club of Indiana and several others.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Ms. Servaas attended Central College in Pella, Iowa; the School of Journalism at the University of Iowa, where she received a bachelor's of arts; and the Indiana University School of Medicine. She also did postgraduate work at Columbia University.
