Jerry Hayes joined News Channel 19 in March of 1979. While working on his college degree he landed an internship at WTVF, the CBS affiliate in Nashville. After graduation, he was hired as a videotape editor in the news department. In the fall of 1978, he moved to Huntsville. He was hired by WHNT as a reporter, but within a couple of weeks began producing and anchoring the weekend newscasts. [CR-LF][CR-LF]After working as 10 O'clock co-anchor and then noon anchor, he was moved to the 6 and 10 anchor spot in November of 1983. For the past few years, he's also added 5 o'clock anchor to his responsibilities. Hayes reported from the White House and brought stories home from St. Petersburg, Russia. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Hayes has won numerous awards during his journalistic career, but his favorites are the ones that are voted by the viewers. Hayes loves country music. He enjoys playing golf and working in his yard at home. He also loves to fish and spend time on the water. Hayes graduated from Middle Tennessee State University.
