Bill Benner is the sports reporter for Inside Indiana Business with Gerry Dick on WSBT-TV. [CR-LF][CR-LF]In addition, he is vice president for the Indiana Sports Corporation, and associate director of communications for the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association (ICVA).[CR-LF][CR-LF]Benner also writes a weekly sports column for The Indianapolis Business Journal, and provides weekly sports commentary for WFYI-FM radio. He is involved in various freelance writing projects and is a frequent guest host on local sports talk radio shows.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Prior to his current assignments, Benner was a sportswriter and columnist for The Indianapolis Star for 33 years. He also co-hosted a sports talk radio show on WNDE-AM 1260 for six years.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Outside of the news room, Benner has 10 years of experience as an adjunct faculty member of the Butler University department of journalism, where he teaches sports journalism.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Benner won numerous awards for his writing during his newspaper career and was twice recognized as the Indiana Sportswriter of the Year by the National Association of Sportswriters and Sportscasters (NSSA) located in Salisbury, N.C.[CR-LF][CR-LF]He is married and has two daughters.[CR-LF][CR-LF]Benner holds a 1973 Bachelor of Science degree in education from Indiana University. [CR-LF][CR-LF]He was also the honor graduate of the U.S. Army Defense Information School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind. He served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve as the information specialist for the 4th Training Brigade.
