Facts you Should Know Regarding Medical Marijuana.

Among the qualifications for medical marijuana in Ohio is having at least one of the qualifying medical conditions. If you can prove that, the rest of the process will be easy. Other factors will see you obtain an Ohio medical card for marijuana. Let's look at these factors.

All the people who were advocating for marijuana had all the reasons to celebrate in June 2016. That was when Ohio lawmakers passed House Bill 523. This bill was meant to legalize medical marijuana in the state of Ohio. Even after the Bill was passed in June 2016, it took a while to implement the program fully. It wasn't until September 2018 that the program became operational. The first four dispensaries were opened in January the following year.

A patient from Ohio can now access medical cannabis without any hassle, thanks to the Ohio medical marijuana program. All a patient has to do is prove that they have one of the qualifying conditions and fill out the MMJ application form to register as a patient. Once all the conditions have been fulfilled, the patient can now head over to one of the medical marijuana dispensaries to purchase the herb.

Inquiring for an Ohio Medical Card for Cannabis

As an Ohio resident suffering from any of the qualifying conditions, you can only access medical marijuana once the Board of Pharmacy (OBP) issues you an Ohio medical card for marijuana products. This board is also responsible for issuing cannabis licenses. Besides proving that you have the qualifying conditions, you also need to be 18 years and above to apply for an MMJ on your own. Minors can also access medical cannabis provided they have a caregiver who is 21 years and above to apply for them. Always have the following documents with you when planning to apply for a medical cannabis card in Ohio.

  • An Ohio driver's license

  • A United States passport

  • Ohio ID card issued by the bureau of motor vehicles (BMV)

When applying for an MMJ in Ohio state, the following are the steps involved.

  1. Identify and consult a state-licensed doctor

A licensed practicing doctor is the only person who has the mandate to recommend you as a medical marijuana patient in Ohio. The doctor also needs to have a "Certificate to Recommend" (CTR). The State Medical Board issues this certification. Once the doctor has proved that you have any of the qualifying medical conditions, only they are authorized to submit the recommendation form to the Board of Pharmacy. The doctor must be practicing in Ohio and not any other state to recommend a patient for an Ohio medical card. Another condition is that you must have a "bona fide" patient-to-doctor relationship for the recommendation to be accepted. No matter how you do it “ through telemedicine or by visiting the doctor in their office “ the doctor has to be an Ohio practicing physician licensed by the state. The doctor will first inquire about your medical history. This is necessary to determine if you are the right candidate for an Ohio medical card. The doctor, once convinced that you have at least one of the qualifying medical conditions and you have tried other treatments and did not work, will have to recommend you as an eligible patient for an MMJ card. The next thing that the doctor will do is fill out the patient's registration form. He will later submit the form on your behalf. A caregiver will be assigned to the patient if it is necessary. The patient is not allowed to submit his or her recommendation.

The doctor needs to submit the registration form to the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. Once the doctor has issued certification, the form must be submitted within 90 days. There are many details in the full recommendation firm submitted by the doctor. To get all the information, just check the state's compliance form. The only person who is allowed to submit the recommendation form to OBP is the doctor who issued the recommendation.

2.    Get Registered

Once the board has reviewed your application form and found out that indeed you require an MMJ, it will send you an email with the logins to your Patient Registry account. This is done once the doctor has entered your name and full details in the registry. An application fee is needed before you are given an Ohio medical card. Besides the application fee, you also need to pay the doctor who recommended you. The application fee is paid to the Board of Pharmacy. Those who qualify for veteran or indigent status will receive discounts.

3.      Find a dispensary near you

When all the processes have gone on smoothly and you've finally received your Ohio medical card for cannabis products, you can go ahead and look for a cannabis dispensary near you. Once you are at the dispensary, you will need to provide some form of identification in order to be served. If the form is incomplete, the Board of Pharmacy will return the form to you to finish filling it out. The moment your application is approved, you will get your MMJ card. As a patient, it is now easier to complete the application process online.

You only have to prove that you are suffering from a dilapidating or qualifying condition to get an Ohio medical card. This with other application processes will qualify for an Ohio MMJ.
