JENNY MANRIQUE

Jenny Manrique is a freelance journalist based in San Francisco, United States of America.

 After winning the International Women Media Foundation's Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship, Jenny worked at MIT’s Center for International Studies as a researcher. She wrote analyses about Colombia for The Audit of the Conventional Wisdom, was KeyNote Speaker in the Women Reporting from the Global Frontlines conference, spoke at the US Congress during the World Press freedom Day and gave a guest lecture about Colombian refugees in Latin America at Harvard Law School. Jenny also interned at the Boston Globe and the New York Times, writing stories about immigration.

In July 2016, Jenny was selected as one of the 23 recipients of the USC Annenberg Health Journalism Fellowships and joined the political unit of Univision Noticias to cover the 2016 presidential campaign with a focus on the latino vote. By September 2017, she joined the Dallas Morning News to cover immigration.

During her career, Jenny has served as the editor of Semana.com, the website of the most influential magazine in Colombia and of Votebien.com, the first web-based resource focused on electoral coverage in Colombia. She led the first team to use Ushahidi tools for election monitoring in Latin America.

Jenny was selected as one of Latin America's "Voices of the New Generation" by Americas Quarterly and was the first Latin American journalist to receive an Ochberg Fellowship, a recognition given by the Dart Center for Journalism & trauma, for her compelling reporting on the personal stories of individuals caught in the midst of FARC and paramilitary violence in Colombia. As an expert in trauma issues, she has been a guest speaker at the Mexican Congress of Psychotrauma, Argentinian Congress of Psychotrauma and the Investigative Reporters and Editors' Annual Meeting.

Jenny also worked as a consultant for the Latin American Office of the International Federation of Journalist (IFJ), writing projects for journalists training in 14 countries in the region.
