VETERAN BROADCASTER KEVIN FRANKISH LAUNCHES A NEW PODCAST FOR THE ECHO PANDEMIC OF DEPRESSION

Posted 07 Nov-2020 10:51 PM by Kevin | 614

Experts call it The Echo Pandemic.  Crisis lines are overwhelmed.  Suicide rates have increased, and it's expected to get much worse.  Mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, which were already at record rates, have been exponentially worsened by COVID-19 through isolation, uncertainty and fear.

A vocal advocate for mental health care hopes his new podcast will be just what the doctor ordered.

Kevin Frankish, a 40-year veteran of TV news and current affairs, left Citytv's Breakfast Television after spending 27 years being instrumental in making it not only the number one morning show in Toronto, but in Canada.  Starting November 15th he launches a new endeavour¦The Happy Molecule.  It's a timely podcast about mental health, your mental health.  The title refers to DOPAMINE which is a hormone produced by our brain that has a big role in how and why we feel pleasure.

Frankish himself has been very public with his diagnosis of severe depressive disorder.  Since his first panic attack on air in 2006, he has been a vocal advocate for accessible mental health treatment and removing its stigma.

The Happy Molecule follows a template created by a Facebook Live show Frankish did for 100 days straight at the onset of COVID-19 isolation called Kevin's Isolators.  The show garnered a loyal following and strong numbers.  The new podcast will build on this audience and carry on its theme of positivity and good advice for those living with depression.  It will deal with recognizing and living with depression with experts from across North America who will reveal the latest research into mental health and provide good advice for listeners.

Each episode will include The Me 3, a list of 3 very simple and practical steps people can use in their own life to improve their own mental health.  The idea of this, according to Frankish, is to provide not only a simple starting point for easing depression but also motivation and a sense of accomplishment.

œPerhaps the two most important themes of my show will be COMMUNITY and HOPE, says Frankish.  œPeople need to know they are not alone and that things CAN get better.  You would be amazed at how these two things can make a journey out of depression that much easier.

A unique feature of the podcast will be a video version of each episode which will be available on YouTube along with a weekly blog and Facebook Live show, both called The Happy Molecule EXTRA.  This will increase the engagement of the audience and encourage community.

The Happy Molecule,  available on all major  podcast directories, including Spotify, iTunes, Amazon and Google, starting November 15th.
