One of Maryland's marquee surgeons, Dr. Schultz is Director of Breast Health at LifeBridge Health. His practice, The Breast Center, is located in LifeBridge Health's Quarry Lake offices and his surgeries are performed at LifeBridge Health hospitals.
LifeBridge Health is one of the largest, most comprehensive providers of health services in Maryland. It includes Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Northwest Hospital, Carroll Hospital, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, Grace Medical Center, and related subsidiaries and affiliates.
A lifelong Marylander, Dr. Schultz left for several years for his pre-med studies at Princeton University before returning to attend the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He then went on to serve his residency at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, after which he spent nearly 30 years at both Sinai and Northwest hospitals, including practicing with two other premier surgeons, Dr. Marc Gertner and Dr. Gary Hamamoto.
After working in several surgical areas, he found his true calling with a specialization in breast cancer care, where he has become renowned among his peers and has inspired deep loyalty among his patients.
His unique patient-centric program, which provides rapid evaluation and consultation along with immediate breast biopsies when indicated with a pathology report 24 hours later, has won many national awards.
Citing his decades of residency teaching as one of the reasons that he was eager to return to LifeBridge Health, Dr. Schultz previously served as the medical director of the Breast Care Center at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center.
In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), he is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
Surgical oncology is the branch of surgery applied to oncology. It focuses on the surgical management of tumors, especially cancerous tumors. A surgical oncologist removes the tumor and nearby tissue during surgery. He or she also performs certain types of biopsies to help diagnose cancer.
In more than four decades in practice, Dr. Schultz has earned a stellar reputation for his medical expertise, surgical skills, and compassion. He is the recipient of the Patients' Choice Award (2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2018), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2009, 2015, 2018), On-Time Doctor Award (2014), and Top 10 Doctor - City (2014), and a perennial Top Doc in Baltimore Magazine for over a decade.
