SHALET JIMMY

Shalet Jimmy is a journalist based in Kochi, India.

 I am a journalist who loves to WRITE feature articles and human interest stories.

It was by sheer accident that I got into the world of Development Sector and was working as a Media Manager and Communications Manager for two NGOs in Bangalore. The experience I garnered from this sector gave me a fresh perspective while approaching human interest stories. Prior to it, I have worked as a Senior Reporter with the New Indian Express group, Kerala for 5 years.

Though a health reporter, I also wrote extensively on other subjects like transport, consumer courts, commissions etc. Health beat helped me to write several human interest stories and some of them helped me gain Special Jury Award for journalists instituted by Dr. B R Ambedkar Institute for National Studies (BRAINS) 2015.

My interest in creative writing motivated me to write for Sunday Magazine, one of the main branches of The New Indian Express that focuses on feature stories which also included many interviews.

I could interview noted personalities like jurist and former law minister late Justice V R Krishna Iyer, Dr Robert Gallo (Co-discoverer – HIV ), Usha Nangiar ( legendary Koodiyattom performer in India ), Dr Mani Lal Bhoumik ( Co- inventor of the Laser surgery for the eyes (LASIK), Dr Jose Chacko Periyappuram ( the first surgeon in India to conduct a heart re-transplant surgery). I have compiled most of the interviews on my blog called “ A Journo’s Blog’ (www.ajournotalks.blogspot.com.

I also had a short stint with International Business Times (an online news portal) in Bangalore.

Currently working as an Independent Journalist.
