ERIN HALE

Erin Hale is a journalist based in Taipei.

 I'm a freelance journalist based in Taipei, where I'm studying Mandarin at National Taiwan Normal University. I also write about Taiwan news, politics and culture for international English-language media including Al Jazeera, Nikkei Asia, The Telegraph and the Guardian. Over the 18 months, I've covered Taiwan's battle with COVID-19, darkening cross-strait relations and indigenous issues to name a few topics. I also write corporate content for select clients like Dow Jones and CNN Create.

Prior to moving to Taiwan, I was living in Hong Kong where I covered the 2019 democracy protests in-depth while working as a teaching assistant at the University of Hong Kong's Journalism and Media Studies Centre. Before then, I lived in Cambodia for three years where I also worked as a freelance journalist covering politics and culture including stories on the Khmer Rouge tribunal, wildlife trade, and Cambodia's brief post-war golden age.
