Mr. Sinnott Verified

Roger Sinnott is senior editor for Sky & Telescope and covers computers. He attended Harvard University studying astronomy, graduating in 1971. When he was only 13, he made a six-inch reflector and ground and figured the optics himself. After Sinnott graduated from college in 1971, he completed two deployments to Southeast Asia as an officer in the U.S. Navy Seabees. Since 1974, Sinnott has overseen the magazine's Telescope Making department, and in 1984, he launched the magazine's Astronomical Computing department. He co-wrote the 'Millennium Star Atlas' with Michael Perryman of the European Space Agency (ESA). The atlas features new data from ESA's Hipparcos astrometry mission. Sinnott also co-authored the two-volume 'Sky Catalogue 2000.0' and started work on NGC 2000.0, an updated revision of J. L. E. Dreyer's famous list of 13,226 nebulae and star clusters. Sinnott recently completed his own backyard observatory. Minor planet '3706 Sinnott' is named in his honor.
