Mr. Selbig Verified

An activist dedicated to improving his community, Aaron Selbig is the publisher and editor of Insurgent49 (www.insurgent49.com ), a non-profit independent media organization dedicated to bringing a grassroots style of independent journalism to Alaska, and to raising money for local Anchorage charities. He is a former US Army infantryman who settled in Anchorage in 1994 after his military service. Selbig began his media career as a freelance journalist, and his writing has been published in the Anchorage Daily News, the Anchorage Press, the Anchorage Chronicle, the Ester Republic, Jaunt Magazine and others . He is winner of a 2005 Alaska Press Club award for Best Editorial Writing. Selbig first tried his hand at radio in March 2004 with "Selective Hearing," an experimental political talk show on the University of Alaska at Anchorage's student-run station, KRUA. That show eventually morphed into "Insurgent Radio" and won an Anchorage Press "Press Pick" award for Best Local Radio DJ in its first year. The show continues to broadcast on KRUA to this day, under the name "Alaska Independent Radio". In the fall of 2005, Selbig arrived at KUDO, first as a Co-Host with Anchorage advertising legend Jack Frost, and then on is own. Selbig enjoys fishing, skiing, backpacking, playing soccer, and reading a good book. He currently lives in Anchorage with his wife Nova and son Gabriel.
