Mr. Perry Verified

Jim is currently president of Firefighter Productions, a consulting firm, and has been an editor of The Los Angeles Firefighter newspaper since 1972. He is also a regular contributor to The Global Emergency Grapevine (www.emergencygrapevine.com). He has received over 100 Awards for Excellence in Journalism from the Greater Los Angeles Press Club, the International Association of Firefighters, the International Labor Communication Association and the Western Labor Communications Association. Perry received numerous awards and honors including the American Red Cross National Life Saving Award of Merit from President John F. Kennedy for the LAFD's first successful CPR in a physical rescue incident in 1963. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Having served in almost every elected position on the Executive Board of the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City, Local 112, Perry was voted a life member of that local affiliate of the International Association of Fire Fighters. Appointed a fireman on April 8, 1961 he retired at the rank of Captain II after serving on the Los Angeles City Fire Department for over 20 years. His assignments included some of the busiest fire stations in Los Angeles and many special duty assignments in the Bureaus of Administration and Fire Prevention. He is a former executive editor of American Firefighter magazine. Perry also served as an editor of the Firemen's Grapevine magazine and was a member of the US Army and California National Guard for six years. Perry graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1957. He furthered his education with a fire science major at Los Angeles Valley College and holds a vocational teaching credential.
