Part of a team of reporters who spent two years investigating a system of civil asset forfeiture in South Carolina that became a series of six main stories and dozens of sidebars and profiles called TAKEN. In announcing reform legislation at the Statehouse after the series ran, legislators thanked The Greenville News for its public service on behalf of the citizens of South Carolina, saying, "A series of investigative reports by The Greenville News has changed the discussion in South Carolina." The series was awarded a 2019 EPPY award for Best Community Service from Editor & Publisher magazine, won a 2020 Best of Gannett award for public service, placed third in the National Headliner Awards and in the South Carolina Press Association awards and won finalist awards from Investigative Reporters and Editors and the John Jay College/Harry Frank Guggenheim Award for Excellence in Criminal Justice Journalism.
