Ms. Mendyk Verified

Sandra Mendyk is editor of the Valley Times. She has worked as a seventh grade teacher at St. Mary-St. Michael School in Derby, Conn. since 1988. Previously, she was an information specialist in the US Army. [CR-LF][CR-LF]In 2003, the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians voted Ms. Mendyk the 2003 Irish Woman of the Year. She has also been selected as the Derby Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Ms. Mendyk is a member of St. Michael's Church where she is active in the church choir, the Ladies Guild and the church ministry. She is also a member of the St. Michael's Post #1562 Catholic War Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, the National Council of the Teachers of English, Oblates of St. Benedict, the Polish Genealogical Society and the Polish Falcons of America. [CR-LF][CR-LF]She earned a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1983 and a master's in English education in 1991, both from Southern Connecticut State University. She also holds a doctorate degree in Naturopathic Medicine.
