JOHN BUTCHER

John Butcher a China-based Journalist.

I am a journalist, based in Beijing, currently working freelance with the bulk of my work for Bloomberg BNA.

In China, I previously worked for the Beijing Review as an editorial consultant and at China Daily as a commissioning editor.

Before that I worked on a variety of magazines and newspapers in London, New York, Dubai, The Bahamas and Costa Rica.

I have experience writing about a broad range of subjects. At present, my main beats for Bloomberg include trade, cybersecurity, data privacy and environmental issues.

I have also written on travel, culture, geopolitics, finance and film/theatre in previous roles, among other areas.

I have considerable experience as a reporter, copy editor and commissioning editor, as well as in editorial management and planning.

I also have have an undergraduate degree in film and art and a master's in digital filmmaking, along with some experience shooting, directing, editing and writing on film projects.
