Freddie H. Fu has been professor and chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine for more than eight years. He is also assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery and director of Sports Medicine. He is executive chairman, professor and surgeon of Pittsburgh Medical Center University. He is head team physician of University of Pittsburgh, Department of Athletics for more than 19 years. [CR-LF][CR-LF]He received more than 70 professional awards, and many major research grants garnered by Fu are the result of his efforts in clinical, basic scientific and biomechanical research concerning sports medicine and orthopedic surgery. He was awarded, President's Challenge Award for his tutelage in advancing the quality of health care related to sports medicine by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) in 1996. In 2002, he received New Investigator Award by the NATA, and he was named as one of three University of Pittsburgh Distinguished Alumni Fellows. Allegheny Cycling Association also awarded him for his outstanding service to the Cycling Community in 1999. He is also listed in the magazine's annual Best Doctors issue. In 2002, the YMCA of Pittsburgh honored him with its 28th Annual Person of the Year award. In 2004, he was named Vectors Pittsburgh Man of the Year for Community Service. Pittsburgh Magazine named him one of the 100 most influential Pittsburghers of the 20th century. [CR-LF][CR-LF]He has contributed to more than 150 international research publications and has given more than 400 national presentations to his companions. He is the editor of 12 major orthopaedic textbooks and author of 60 book chapters on the management of sports injuries. He was assistant professor at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine faculty in 1982. He become clinical vice chairman of the department of orthopaedic surgery in 1990 and executive vice chairman in 1994. He was also president of Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society. He was Professor of physical therapy , professor of health physical and recreation education at University of Pittsburgh Athletic Department. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Fu received undergraduate and post-graduate degrees at Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School. He holds a doctor of medicine degree in orthopedics and sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He also fulfilled an internship in general surgery at Brown University.
