ALINA YANCHUR

Alina Yanchur is a journalist based in Gothenburg, Sweden.

I am a journalist from Belarus now living in Sweden. In Belarus, I have worked for the main state media holding Belarus Today for about four years. In the summer of 2020, I resigned for political reasons. Before, I worked as a freelance journalist for the biggest Belarusian online media TUT.BY. I specialized in the topics of social problems, and on the practical side I gained experience in doing photo reporting, filming, and editing video. I am familiar with Sony Vegas, Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.

I also have volunteered serving as a Press Secretary for a charity organization for social adaptation of orphans.

From September 2020, I have been studying a master’s programme in investigative journalism at JMG at Gothenburg University. Here, I learnt about data journalism, in particular about analysing data with Excel and Python, web scraping and data visualisation.

In October 2020, I also participated in a cross-border journalistic investigative project “Maria” organised by SVT and MIJ and led by Lena Sundström, Fredrik Laurin and Axel Björklund. That project gave me valuable insight into investigative journalism.
