Melba Lara joined Chicago Public Radio in 1992 as the local news anchor for Morning Edition. She began her radio career in 1985 as the local Morning Edition host at WAUS-FM in Berrien Springs before working at Chicago Public Radio as the weekend host for the local Weekend Edition. She was also a news correspondent in 2003 after leaving her position as assistant news director at Wisconsin Public Radio. [CR-LF][CR-LF]Lara's radio reporting experience also includes work as the morning news anchor at Michigan Radio in Ann Arbor and assistant News Director at WHFB-AM and FM in Benton Harbor. Lara won awards from the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Milwaukee Press Club, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, and the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in communications.
